Granuband
Founded in 1991 by entrepreneur Maarten van Randeraat, Granuband has grown into a vibrant company with over 90 employees, located in the bustling Port of Amsterdam’s Western Harbour Area. As one of the pioneers of tyre recycling in the Netherlands and Europe, Granuband initially focused on collecting, sorting, and shredding used tyres. By 1995, it launched its first rubber tile for public spaces, marking the beginning of a diverse product range under the Granuflex brand, catering to an expanding global customer base.
As millions of tyres are discarded each year in the Netherlands, Granuband has been at the forefront of repurposing end-of-life tyres from cars, tractors, and trucks. Since 1995, the company has transformed what was once considered waste into durable, eco-friendly products, breathing new life into old materials. One area of focus for Granuband is roof and balcony tiles made from recycled tyre rubber, which are described in more detail on the following page
Roof and terrace tiles
Recycled rubber offers a sustainable solution that is both functional and versatile. Granuband’s Granuflex rubber tiles are designed to dampen sound, absorb shocks, and provide excellent drainage, making them ideal for the construction industry. Resistant to moisture, sunlight, and frost, these tiles are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, available in various sizes and configurations, including dowel/hole and plain options for a perfect fit.
Specifically, Granuflex rubber roof and balcony tiles deliver a safe, comfortable, and water-permeable solution for rooftop terraces and balcony floors. With outstanding drainage, soundproofing, and insulating properties, these tiles contribute to a cleaner planet as they are made from 100% recycled rubber. At the end of their long lifespan, they are fully recyclable, establishing them as an exceptionally sustainable choice for any environment.
As the popularity of roof gardens skyrockets, Granuflex’s Optidrain system ensures optimum drainage control by efficiently channelling excess rainwater away, allowing sedum and other plants to thrive. For terraces and balconies featuring concrete or natural stone tiles, effective drainage and damping are crucial. Granuflex’s rubber tile supports help level the subfloor while adding springiness underfoot, simplifying installation. With their durability and eco-friendly properties, Granuflex tiles enhance building practices and ensure that materials can be recycled at the end of their lifecycle.
